After months of speculation that the London ePrix could be scrapped in favour of a race at Silverstone heading into Formula E’s Gen4 era, it has now been widely reported that the London ExCel circuit will remain on the calendar until at least 2026.
The new plans mean that the London ePrix will remain on the calendar until at least the end of the Gen3 era and if plans to expand the track go ahead the circuit may remain the home of the British round of Formula E for many more years to come.
Part of the reason that Formula E bosses have abandoned the idea of a race at Silverstone instead is thought to be down to a poor reaction from teams to the idea as well as the unwillingness from Formula E to have a repeat of the Misano disaster. Ahead of Season 10 the sports’ bosses decided that the cars had outgrown the widely popular Rome ePrix circuit and instead moved the Italian round to Misano where the event saw lacklustre ticket sales and didn’t seem to suit the style of the cars.
Talks between Formula E and the ExCel have gone well and a provision date for the 2026 event has been set which would see the race, still expected to be Formula E’s season closer, taking place in August 2026 with the Tokyo ePrix set to be moved to later in the year.
